Mapping the Morphology and Kinematics of a Ly?-selected Nebula at z = 3.15 with MUSE

Abstract Recent wide-field integral-field spectroscopy has revealed the detailed properties of high-redshift Ly ? nebulae, most often targeted due to presence an active galactic nucleus (AGN). Here, we use VLT/MUSE resolve morphology and kinematics a nebula initially identified strong emission at z ? 3.2 (LABn06). Our observations reveal two-lobed nebula, least ?173 pkpc in diameter, with light-weighted centroid near mid-infrared source (within ?17.2 pkpc) that appears host obscured AGN. The AGN is also coincident velocity kinematic center suggesting both morphologically kinematically centered on Compared AGN-selected surface-brightness profile this follows typical exponential large radii (>25 pkpc), although small radii, shows unusual dip location asymmetry are similar to, C iv He ii upper limits consistent with, other AGN-powered nebulae. Double-peaked asymmetric line profiles suggest resonant scattering may be important nebula. These results support picture being responsible for powering oriented roughly plane sky. Further will explore whether central depression indicative either gas or dust distribution variation ionizing output over time.
